Position: Program Officer (1)

Salary: Rs. 40,000 per month

Job Description

This position will be mostly engaged in updating Nepal monitor's data before 2016 to make it compatible with the new structure in which extensive variables are recorded for each incident, and congruent with the remapped federal boundaries of Nepal. It will be the most senior of three new positions created to address our backlog of pre-2016 data and will involve responsibility for supervising two other staffs.

Updating the data set will entail:

§  Writing short summary descriptions for each report in Nepali and English

§  Coding different variables for incidents by following the coding guideline

§  Mapping old VDCs location to their corresponding local units formed in Federal Nepal

§  Conducting follow-up with District Focal Persons on local newspaper reports to verify incidents with district focal persons and local journalists

§  Supervising program interns to undertake data update

§  Performing quality check on coding and language in reports

§  Contributing to the draft of summary reports and analysis conducted using the wider NMP dataset

§  Assisting in monthly collation of data-set

§  Performing other tasks as required

 

Ideal candidate's profile

Experience

§  Bachelor’s degree in journalism, social science or other relevant fields and at least 3 years of work experience in relevant field(s)

§  At least two years' experience in conflict analysis, violence monitoring, and human rights

§  Some background in journalism/law is an advantage

Skills& Qualities

§  Excellent understanding of Nepal’s Socio-political dynamics

§  Excellent command over both English and Nepali language with experience in editing and proofreading documents

§  Proficient in Nepali text entry using Preeti and/or Unicode

§  Strong analytical skills, able to bring new ideas into the organization

§  Extremely detail-oriented

§  Willing to work in a complex sociocultural environment

§  Strong interpersonal skills and enjoy to work as part of a team

§  Able to work independently with minimum supervision and meet deadlines

 

Please note, under the current conditions these positions will be home based until further notice. A reliable internet connection will be necessary to accommodate this. COCAP will cover reasonable expenses for the monthly cost of internet for the period of the job contract that is carried out under lockdown. These posts are only open to citizens of Nepal.
